it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm getting ready for another challenging year. This coming year, I will be teaching a first and a second grade combination class. My students will start with a disadvantage because of the pandemic and I want to have as many tools and materials as possible to help them succeed in school.
I know they will be eager to learn and they will be full of energy and wonder because for some of them this will be their first time in an actual classroom.
I have been teaching for 20 years in the same public school that is located in a city where 90 percent of our population is socioeconomically disadvantaged. About 4 percent of our student population are foster youth.
My Project
I love the Junie B. Jones series and I want my students to fall in love with these books just like I have. I've been collecting and reading these books for years and it's time to replace some of these books. This collection of book is grade level appropriate for first and second graders. The chapters are not long and students will feel successful after finishing the first chapter book that they will want to read more.
These books are great because it shows students how to read with tone, expression, and fluency.
The stories are hilarious and relatable because the main character is a little girl that gets in trouble and is learning new things everyday at school and at home. From previous experience, students will enjoy reading these books that they will not want to stop until they have read all 28 books.
