My Students
I currently teach Advanced Placement U.S. and World History to students at 5 different High Schools throughout the School District of Philadelphia. What I like about the classes that I teach and the AP programs that I am involved with is they help to prepare the students for college.
Many of my students have been underserved in their traditional high school classes and so they have been chosen to participate in our district-wide AP program.
These classes are more rigorous and challenging than what many of them are used to but, they all are excited about taking the classes, being better prepared for college, and the opportunity to earn college credit while still in High School.
My Project
In order to incorporate independent reading into my history curriculum, I have been collecting books that pertain to the time periods and topics covered in my AP U.S., and AP World History classes. So far I have collected over 500 books with more to come in the coming weeks. The only problem is, I have no bookshelves to display the books on for my students to browse. So I need to get shelves that are large, sturdy, and easy to assemble. These shelves should meet all of those needs, and allow my students to browse the titles and pick out a book, or two, that interest them to read.
