I am in the homestretch of a Master's program that requires me to conduct original research on a topic of my choice. I have decided to assess the ways in which the human - animal bond can help communities to thrive.
I am requesting tuition for a one-semester, research course.
The course will be online through the International Institute for Restorative Practices.
The goal of restorative practices--or restorative justice--is to build and repair relationships within a community. That community can be an actual neighborhood or any other construct such as a school.
My goal is to research how bringing humans into contact with shelter animals affects empathy and prosocial behavior. Understanding this relationship will help me to guide future instruction for my students. In particular, I am hoping to network with local shelters, so that together we can help both students and animals. One idea that I would like to implement is to have students think about how bias and discrimination affects both human and animal populations. Thank you for your consideration.
