This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are strong, brilliant, curious, creative people. They deserve to see books on a shelf that are recently published, as well as appreciate words of the old Bard, Shakespeare.
Students want to know the truth -- what is real and valuable to them -- and that is especially true of trying to convince teenagers to grab a book to read.
In a world where their favorite shows or influencers are a click away, resting in their pocket or in front of their faces, it's more important than ever to engage their minds with books and literature.
The titles I've chosen are all contemporary authors, which students need to know exist! So many students could become writers themselves, if only they could see that people just like them are currently publishing. Additionally, I've added cards and artwork to keep in the classroom that will add to the literary environment, as well as a gumball machine to stuff with plastic containers holding different poems. My vision is that students will grab a poem here and there on their own accord and happen to learn something new!
