My Students

My students enjoy exploring different instrument tones and timbres. In my classroom, they play a variety of instruments and ensemble pieces. They learn to accompany the music they sing. My goal is for students to be able to perform the music on their own without a teacher accompaniment.

A large percentage of students speak more than one language.

In our music program, we work to provide a strong music education for our students, considering many of them are not able to afford private music lessons. The school is very supportive of arts education for students and welcomes every opportunity for them to perform and share what they have learned. As part of our music program, students are able to participate in an after school choir and xylophone ensemble in addition to their general music classes. The students themselves have a variety of musical interests and passions in general music, including singing, recorders, ukuleles, guitars, drumming, and percussion ensembles.

My Project

This project is requesting materials to support our choral program. The theme for this year's big music concert is astronomy and celebration of music. In addition to music classes, the choir, made up of students in grades 1 through 6, will be performing. The music requested through this project supports the theme and provides students with access to a variety of repertoire that will advance their skill in two-part singing. The accompaniment tracks will help support the singing as well.

Having sheet music will increase the students' musicianship skills by allowing them to follow along with the written notes in addition to the lyrics.

Combining repertoire to include poetic text and modern music will help engage students and enrich their arts education.
