This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have always dissected sheep hearts in my 7th grade life science class, but in recent years, there has been no science funding. Dissection trays and tools sit idle in my school and hands on learning opportunities are lost.
I teach 155 7th grade students in California.
We are an under performing school in a low socioeconomic area. Many of my students are in foster care. We are making gains on our state test scores, but we are still not able to offer the same quality science programs as schools with better funding.
My Project
With your donation, I will be able to provide a quality dissection experience for my 7th grade life science students. They will be able to trace the flow of blood through each chamber of the heart and see what a real heart looks like. Students will pin labels on each part of the heart after they cut their heart open and identify each structure and function.
With your donation, my students will be able to experience a dissection.
Our dissection equipment will not sit unused this year due to lack of funding. These 7th graders will have a chance to explore the heart and this very opportunity may encourage those who have been considering the high school's medical magnet program to apply. Your donation will help students from a low income neighborhood to have the same opportunities in science as those students from wealthier areas.
