This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school in an economically challenged area in Southern California. School is often an outlet for students to be themselves and temporarily forget about the stressors they face when they go home. When Covid-19 required students to learn from home, the engagement and excitement for learning decreased. It is imperative to keep students engaged and actively participating to track growth and ensure students are learning.

My goal is to incorporate CREATIVE & ENGAGING content in face-to-face learning and online interactions.

My students deserve the best education, the best resources, and the greatest of opportunities to be the best scholars they can be. The pandemic has removed students from their 'normal' routines of learning, and their return in fall will be hybrid learning which will be new for students. Students are using technology to communicate and participate in their education, so time spent in the classroom will be for instruction. Reducing the time and opportunities for collaborative work in the classroom. My goal is for students to work collaboratively, while at a distance learning from home using resources fro Teachers Pay Teachers.

My Project

The materials requested will be used to purchase STEM challenges that combine social studies and STEM with projects inspired by historical women in STEM fields. Students will use the engineering design process to solve challenges related to the work of historical architectures and the work of pioneering female scientists and engineers from different cultures. STEM education helps to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields dominated by males. Girls and culturally diverse students are often overlooked due to a lack of representation. History teaches students about the origins of architectural structures and inspirations for buildings around the world through historical engineering. The resources requested from the Teachers Pay Teachers website will allow me to purchase STEM-focused activities for students to complete projects geared toward engineering, helping to learn about the different countries, methods of engineering, historical ways of problem-solving, while applying opportunities to have students think creatively to create projects of their own. What better way for students to be able to learn about engineering than to think of, plan, and create working models.

There is an old saying "I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand" -Confucius.

Girls can gain confidence in their STEM skills and abilities while learning the true meaning of teamwork when it comes to working collaboratively and communicating effectively to complete the STEM project. History is the ideal classroom to combine engineering tasks usually found in science and math classes. History classes study the engineering feats of the past and students should have opportunities to design projects that solve engineering challenges that societies have faced through time.
