My students need hands-on science supplies to help teach the curriculum. Items such as a weather station, cloud classification cards, fossil and rock collections and books.
It's hard to understand the difference between different rocks and fossils without being able to see some examples. It's also difficult to check the wind and air pressure for our weather unit, with our hand-made paper cup and straw weather tools (many times wind blew them apart or rain made them soggy).
I am a 4th grade teacher in Utah who loves to teach.
My students are very eager to learn. I feel having a variety of teaching methods is important, especially for my "reluctant" learners. My students have different backgrounds and learning styles, because of this, they need varying styles of learning. For this reason, I am always looking to add additional learning and teaching methods.
My Project
My students need a weather station, cloud classification cards, fossil and rock collections, and books. My 4th grade students will be able to take a more hands-on approach to learning science by using these requested resources. My students will be able to check the weather station everyday themselves (instead of me reading it off the Internet). By being able to study the rock and fossil collections, students may have a better chance of identifying them on the state tests. Having the landforms formation model will allow them to visually see the process. I will be able to use the science books during science time, as well as reinforcing it during reading by having them read the books as a reading station. Having the posters, photo cards and pocket charts will allow me to teach the concept and keep the posters and cards out as a reference.
Using these supplies, my students can be more motivated to learn 4th grade science.
By using these hands-on resources and supplies they will be capable of understanding the concepts of water cycle, weather, land forms, rocks and fossils more easily.
