My Students
Using A Long Walk to Water as a class read aloud will help us introduce our students to our method of close reading that will set the stage for deeper and more meaningful reading experiences throughout the year. The pencil sharpers are just because, well...we always need sharp pencils.
We are an amazing class of diverse students and learners.
We are an urban school in Brooklyn and we are determined to be our best despite financial limitations. We are a creative and always growing group of students and professionals, determined to make the best of what we have and create with whatever we have around us.
My Project
Having this class set of books will allow us to begin the year with a guided reading to set the bar high for the rest of the year. We use very particular note taking to help our students maximize their understanding while reading and this book, in particular, allows us to demonstrate the work to the students and sets the expectations for the rest of the school year.
The pencil sharpeners are because we have been through three this year and they were all inexpensive and not meant to handle the hands of many eager 5th graders. We are hoping by ordering two manual and one more substantial electric sharpener, we can divide the work load to make all the sharpeners even more productive.
There is nothing more important than being an active reader.
We need to be fully engaged in what we read and discriminating in what we believe. Teaching children to be the most active and involved readers possible serves them for a lifetime.
Having sharp pencils just makes the day run more smoothly!
