My Students

My students are a sweet group of first graders who come from many different countries including Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Brazil, Vietnam, China, Japan, the Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Cote D'A'Ivoire, Lebanon, Spain and the Dominican Republic.

They are an excited and eager bunch! A portion of my students qualify for refugee status and coming to America has been exciting and overwhelming as they adapt and learn the language and customs. Many are first generation English speakers.

My Project

We are a Leader In Me school and we are teaching our students to be leaders. We believe in teaching our students how to live effectively by living the 7 Habits (being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, putting first things first, thinking win-win, seeking first to understand, synergizing and sharpening the saw). Sharpening the Saw is important because it allows students to re-energize so that they are at their best.

This year we are so excited to have Sharpen the Saw Clubs school-wide, where students can get together and sharpen their saw by participating in clubs of interest and that are non academic.

Having a Keva Planks Club will allow those students to discover art, think like an architect, use critical thinking skills, build bridges, use team building skills, and be as creative as they would like to be with no limitations.
