it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are interested in the world around them. They are city kids with a keen interest in learning new things. They love to explore, to write, to build and to read. As the ELD teacher for kinder and 1st grade, I spend my time pushing in to classrooms to teach English language learners.
My students come from an impoverished background, but they also have strong family ties and parents who want the best for them.
Our school is very large and with the latest state budget cuts, our class will be much larger than normal. This won't stop us from becoming a school family looking out for each other and learning everything we can in these first pivotal years of school.
My Project
We need good pencil sharpeners daily so that we can easily grab a pencil and get to work. Students also need magnetic tiles to build open ended creations as part of their stem science activities. These magnetic tiles can also be used during indoor recess on days when the weather doesn't cooperate.
Students build skills in communication and sharing and they love the process of discussing and creating new buildings, bridges and vehicles.
This is a toy that can be used year round. Sometimes we will use them for a specific objective like learning about magnets and pushes and pulls, but then also as part of a creative writing time or a math patterning practice time. The possibilities are endless with these mix and match sets.
