My Students
The beauty of working in an extremely diverse school is getting to learn about different cultures and work with a mixing pot of students. When every student in my class come together, they are always learning from each other. Also, being in an emergent classroom, with 3/4 of them as an ELL, it helps me appreciate them even more. My students teach each other how to say something in their language every day. They help everyone feel special even though they are not verbal about it.
My Project
Being organized will help my students use the resources that is provided around the room. As a new teacher in an ELL class, having a lot of visuals is very important for my students. I find that organizing my materials is very hard as space is limited in the room. They also get ripped up so, getting organizers can help the students. With 32 students, test taking and giving students their privacy is hard when you have limited space and only rely on their "privacy folders" that fall during a test and is a distractor. Recently, our only pencil sharpener broke and my some of my students depend on it to sharpen their pencils every day. Having a new working pencil sharpener will help them get ready for the day. My students need organization in order to work. A gift card donation to Lakeshore Learning Materials would be great because I really want to laminate the anchor charts that I make for my students. My students rely on the anchor charts to refresh their memory and use it to help them do the best they can. Laminating them will preserve them for a longer time, allowing me to worry about other important things for the students.
