Help me give my students diverse books and calculators to support and develop their identities as readers and mathematicians in our inclusive learning community.
Connections are key to our learning community. We build our community and bridge individuals to make connections through the books we read, the math problems we tackle, and the time we spend learning together. I respect each child for who they are, and I want my fourth graders to feel visible and valued in our inclusive learning community.
Marvelous mathematicians and avid readers, that's what my fourth graders are and as their teacher, I aim to build an inclusive learning community that encourages my students to value their own identities as mathematicians and readers, as well as those of others.
Fluency in both reading and math is an important part of fourth grade. That's why having appropriate tools like calculators and series books are important in order to give my learners the opportunity to sharpen their reading and math skills. The calculators offer multiplication table quiz function and flash card function to help my mathematicians learn math skills in an engaging, game-like way.
Our classroom looks and feels like a library in that our shelves are filled with diverse books for all types of readers as my fourth graders discover and develop their own reader identity. Books such as Daisy Woodworm Changes the World encourage my students to affirm and value their own unique identities. As readers, my fourth graders identify with the characters they meet in the books they read which is why an inclusive library is so crucial! Books can be windows for my readers to see through to the outside world as well as a reflection of their own identity as they discover their reader identity. There's nothing better than getting a perfect match between the book and the reader! We appreciate you supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our fourth grade classroom!
