My students need a marketplace, pretend cash register, pretend play centers, an iPad, and construction paper to create their own businesses and learn financial literacy.

My Students
This project is replicated from Mr. Kindle's "Shark Tank!: Entrepreneurship with New-to-Country Students" project. Most of my students only know debit and credit cards. They are not exposed to cash but instead a simple swipe and they believe that you can buy all you want.
In my classroom my students have grown up in a world of you see it, you swipe it, you have it.
They have no concept of money at 5 and 6 years old. Many have not experienced a cash transaction so they do not see the actual money being spent. They believe if there is something they want that can just swipe a card and it is theirs. This is why it is so important for dramatic play in kindergarten. I am able to provide them a safe environment of shopping and spending money without the reality of losing real money. These life skills are vital for our students to learn today to grow up to be financially responsible adults.
My Project
This project is replicated from Mr. Kindle's "Shark Tank!: Entrepreneurship with New-to-Country Students" project. The dramatic play area in my classroom is always the most sought after area for free play. They want to pretend to be like their parents and shop, cook etc. These resources that I am requesting will allow my students to work in a small group to develop a business that they would like to build in our classroom. They will use the art materials to brainstorm, develop and create their business idea. Their group may choose to create a pizza parlor, ice cream shop, vet clinic, grocery store, sandwich shop etc. Then, with teacher support, they will create an advertisement on the ipad to pitch their idea to their peers. All students will then be provided with the materials to start their business. The classroom cash register and play money will then allow the students to experience cash transactions and not be able to spend more money than they are allotted.
My students lives will be enriched by this experience.
Many may decide to start their own businesses when they grow up but most importantly they will learn financial responsibility. We appreciate your support to help make our classroom businesses come alive.
