Connected. Capable. Contributing. Don't we hope all of our students feel that way while they're at school? In the humanitarian service club I advise at school, those are the feelings we aim to develop in students from all backgrounds. We believe students overall achieve more when they feel strongly those ways about themselves and that we can foster those feelings by organizing and hosting various events that allow students to consistently have positive interactions with others.
The Insignia 21 cubic foot convertible upright freezer and Coleman 100 quart rolling cooler are two items we have been yearning for that would better enable us to facilitate those interactions that help students feel connected, capable, and contributing.
High school students tend to naturally enjoy socializing with others whenever food is involved. For example, I commonly see that lunchtime is the prized 30-minute timeframe during which students are least stressed about schoolwork and have the opportunity to slow down, relax, and be present in the moment with those around them. In our club, we aim to recreate more of those kinds of moments that the students can savor and use to rejuvenate themselves since high school tends to be a stressful time.
The large convertible upright freezer would be tremendously helpful either as a freezer or a refrigerator. It will better enable students to bring food and drinks they can connect over on a daily basis. The club also plans to use it to hold various food items for club socials and even large amounts of fundraiser merchandise that could be sold to support the various service initiatives of the club. The rolling cooler will be used to transport the various snacks and beverages elsewhere, so the sharing and bonding over food is not limited to the when we are near our classroom.
