"Knock knock." "Who's there?" "Orange. I mean banana. No, orange." "Orange who?" "Wait, no, it was banana!" Second grade students make me laugh all day long. They laugh at silly jokes. They sing silly songs with me. They only minimally roll their eyes when I solve a math equation wrong accidentally on purpose.
Second Grade is a melting pot of backgrounds, learning exposure, and abilities (academic, language, and social).
The range of levels is incredible. Being able to differentiate for each student is key for a second grade teacher. Having the right tools makes this possible.
My Project
My adorable students spend an equal amount of time in two different classrooms throughout their learning day. Each time they switch classrooms, they clean up and stash their belongings into a tote tray. Those tote trays tend to get heavier and heavier as the year goes on, while their poor little arms get tired of lugging everything back and forth. The magazine holders would give my students a place to call their own and keep their English-instruction materials in their English classroom.
Learning can be hard sometimes, especially when you're a 2nd grader learning Spanish in our dual language immersion program!
Sometimes, their sweet, hardworking brains need a break from their desks. Cue the clipboards! Students will have a chance to take a break from their desks, grab a clipboard, and find another working area in our classroom. Clipboards will also aid us in outside learning, so we have something to record our observations, notes, etc.
Both of these items will take some of the stress out of learning and help them focus on learning.
