My students need 2 portable keyboard pianos with stands. This will alleviate several students having to share one keyboard at a time, and allow them to learn piano music and technique more fully and efficiently.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the greatest, most deserving kids I have ever met. They are hard-working, dedicated, sweet, and love to play music. My school is in a low-income area, with nearly 100% of students being eligible for free school lunches. Our music program generally serves about 50% of the high school population.

Our school is unique because of the music classes offered to our students.

Two of our high school music classes are beginning music classes, for students who missed out on playing instruments at a younger age, but are interested and motivated to learn to play an instrument in high school. This is unique to any music program in the area, as every other program begins in 6th grade and continues.

My Project

These keyboards will help out tremendously in my beginning high school music classes, where I currently have 6 students (per class) wanting to learn piano, and only 2 keyboards.

Currently, the students are having to rotate between piano and bells, which is not only decreasing interest, but keeping my students from progressing as quickly as they should and want to!

My students are highly motivated to learn, and learn well; the only thing holding them back at the moment, is our lack of resources and instruments.

Also, I have students (from these two classes and other classes) who come in before school, during lunch, and after school to practice piano on their own time, but often times come to find there isn't a keyboard available for them. I would love to be able to welcome anyone and everyone the times they wish to come practice and perfect their skills.
