This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I service live in the South Bronx. Most of the students live below the poverty level and reside in public housing. Currently, I will be working with first grade students in an ICT setting. These students are performing at various levels from on to below the grade standard. The population of the children in my class are either English language learners, students will disabilities and general education students.

This academic year my goal is to spark a love of reading and writing for all my students!

My students are children that require school to be a place where they not only embark on a learning adventure everyday but an environment that reminds them daily; that they are important, that they matter and that we have high expectation for them.

My students are curious little beings that are eager to explore books and tap into their own lives as authors.

My Project

Everyday I deliver shared reading lessons to develop decoding and comprehension skills for my first grade students. It is extremely difficult to conduct the lessons because I do not have a place to rest the books and be able to turn the pages smoothly. With the fulfillment of this project, it will provide us an easel that will allow me to conduct the lessons smoothly without having to hold the big book in my hands. It will also provide storage for all of the big books in my class. The easel will also allow students to access the reading material at eye level.
