My students need 6 copies of 17 leveled guided reading books, such as "Ben's Dad" and "The Toy Farm" for our guided reading groups, where they learn various strategies and practice to become fluent readers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in a very high need district and school. My students’ reading scores are very low. I teach beginning readers, emergent readers and fluent readers in my class, along with a student with learning disabilities. Most of my students are second language learners and therefore need extra support to learn English.
The students in my class are eager to become readers and excited to learn! Many of them come to school with very little support at home, most of them overcoming various obstacles in their home lives that I have never had to face. It is rewarding everyday to work with them, to watch them grow and see their learning take place. I love the look on their faces when I introduce a new book or when I let them have a new book to practice for their book bin.
This is my first year teaching at this school and there are not many resources to draw from for guided reading. In order to best meet my students needs I need to acquire a variety of leveled guided reading books. I’d like to meet each of my students at their instructional level and give them the best instruction possible at that level. With quality leveled reading books, students have entry points into learning various strategies to word solve, decode and comprehend, making their way to becoming fluent readers.
In the beginning of this year my students and I wrote out our hopes and dreams for second grade, many of them said “I hope I learn to read this year”. My reply is, “I hope that we all learn to be better readers this year!” Your help will ensure that my students have meaningful texts that they can read, and books that are at their instructional level.
