Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

To love art, one has to to be free to explore, make mistakes, find ways to have artistic license, and create without boundaries. To do so with a limited art budget is difficult. My students receive formal art classes only several weeks of the year, then must swap with another set of classes.

My students have a great love of the creative arts, visual and otherwise, and bring their own cultural backgrounds into each experience.

They are from a multitude of socio and economic backgrounds, and love hands-on activities. They light up when the resident art instructor drops by for a visit, even though budget cuts do not allow for her to work with my class for the rest of the year. Art is very important to them, and they all consider themselves artists in one sense or another want to foster this sentiment and have it grow and develop.

My Project

By utilizing clay and plaster as media, my students can explore with modeling, mold-making, and creation of armatures to express their artistic talents. They will learn to plan and follow through on a design, how to use shape and size, and how to do scale models.

In this economic crisis which impacts all of us, students of the arts are deeply effected by not having the exposure, training, and means to fulfill the basic curricula that builds a well-rounded student.

Teachers resort to purchasing materials and books to supplement an art program that is limited by budgetary cuts, and do their best to have students explore the arts with what they can provide. I want to encourage my students to grow as artists, creative geniuses, and big-thinkers.
