In working with a variety of age ranges as the ELD teacher on campus, I frequently encounter the need for basic shape identification with our young kindergarten students, as well as with our newcomers to the country for recognizing and writing their letters. We are hoping with increasing the multisensory approach to forming letters, as well as interacting with letters and their sounds, our EL students will have increased opportunity to engage with the material necessary to learn how to be effective and efficient writers and readers.
With this project we aim to provide our struggling readers the opportunity to find success in writing through learning how to identify the different shapes of a letter.
This chance to interact physically with shapes will help them transfer these skills to writing.
Our students are special because they come from such a wide variety of experiences and cultural linguistically diverse homes. We want to foster their growth in the best way possible.
