Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a high poverty school. Most of my students did not attend preschool and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of these children are English learners, so while they are learning the essential basic skills for their educational foundation, they are also learning a new language!
My students generally come to me with little or no prior experience with using academic tools such as pencils or crayons.
They make incredible gains in this one short year of school. They are absolutely amazing kids!
My Project
I am requesting several resources that promote understanding of geometry and spatial reasoning. These are pattern blocks activity and design cards, a magnetic mosaic shape center, and a light-up pattern blocks design center.
Hands-on experiences are essential to early learning.
These resources will ensure that my students have numerous daily opportunities to manipulate shapes, giving them a better understanding of the geometric properties of shapes and how they can work together. The variety of activities means that students will always have a fresh and new experience when working with these materials.
These hands-on opportunities are so important to building the foundations of geometry for their future academic endeavors.
