Shakespeare with a Modern Twist

My students need modern novels to pair with the reading of Hamlet and Macbeth including Enter Three Witches; Mac/Beth; The Third Witch, Ophelia, Saving Hamlet; Falling for Hamlet; and Something Rotten.

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and income levels. They are eager to learn and would love new and innovative ways to explore the topics we cover in class. As a class, we focus on discussion, projects, and collaboration to expand our knowledge and learn from each other.

They are excited to explore more contemporary works to connect to the classic literature we will also read.

My Project

These texts will promote more student connection and interaction with classic Shakespearian plays. Many students ask for more modern texts and ways to better understand and connect to novels we read and study in class. By offering this variety it also addresses multiple Common Core Standards.

These will offer this opportunity to students and still allow choice in which novel to read further drawing the students in to both readings - classic and modern - as students tend to enjoy reading self-selected novels more than required novels.

Students will read both the classic and a modern novel for comparative group work. Students will form reading circles for the modern novel and make the comparisons with their group for the rest of the class. This will encourage collaborative learning and build life-long learners.
