Shakespeare Research Makes Romeo and Juliet Make Sense!

My Students
Do you remember your first experience with Shakespeare? For many, memories of first encounters with the Bard are unpleasant. Many students are overwhelmed by Shakespeare the first time they encounter his writing, but it doesn't have to be this way.
At our charter school in Colorado, Shakespeare is an essential part of the curriculum in grades 9-12.
My students are interested and exciting about learning new things, but Shakespearean language can be daunting. Often, students give up before they've really begun. My hope is to make their first experience with Shakespeare be an unforgettable one.
My Project
The mini-research library I am requesting will assist my students with acquainting themselves with Shakespeare's world before they begin reading his work. This will develop their background knowledge about the Bard and give them greater access to understanding his writing. Not only will it help them complete a research project on Shakespeare's world, it will give them the resources they need to look up information when they become curious about something they read in one of his plays. Students will be better prepared to read not only Romeo and Juliet but also Hamlet and Macbeth.
This project will help foster the creativity my students already have.
It will give them the opportunity to harness that creativity and use it to impact their own learning. There is nothing more important than helping students learn to control their learning.
