My Students
It has been quite a ride these past four months of the pandemic and virtual learning. In the spring, I was able to connect with my K-5 students in creative ways through Google Meet, Facetime, Google Duo, Zoom, basically whatever worked best for my families. My students have done amazing things with limited resources.
Since we will be teaching music virtually this fall, my students will need rhythm instruments for their at-home use.
I want to send home a small instrument kit for each child to use for these virtual lessons, to ensure that everyone has the same materials for learning at home.
Many of my students come from low-income homes where parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet and do not have the time or resources to help their children get supplies together for at-home learning. Can you help me get these supplies together for my youngest students?
My Project
I will be sending home music kits for all of my kindergarten, first, and second-grade students. These kits will contain some instruments they will make at home as well as some more sophisticated rhythm instruments that we can use during online lessons.
Although my district has not specified how we will deliver music instruction this fall, we do know it will be completely virtual.
I would like my students to have the same kinds of instruments at home as we would be using in their classroom at school for music.
I do not currently have enough school instruments for all children to have the same instrument, as I previously only needed a class set of 30 for in-person instruction. This project will allow me to put the same instrument in every kindergarten, first, and second-grade kit, and then at the semester I can collect the kits, sanitize and send new kits home. My students love using rhythm instruments!
