Shake That Groove Thing!

My students need a Music Machine which allows those with disabilities to play an instrument simply by pressing a button.

My Students

Remember the joy of music class? Banging on a drum? Shaking a maraca? Tapping your rhythm sticks? Imagine not being able to do any of those things because you can't hold or manipulate to instruments.

The students in our class have multiple disabilities including motor impairment.

They participate in a music session each week but a staff member must help them hold and use even the simplest instrument. From bells to tambourines, they all must be played hand-over-hand with the help of an adult.

My Project

An adapted Music Machine would hold and move the instruments with the press of a button. Most simple instruments like the sticks, bells and tambourines can be clamped into the Music Machine. The student can activate a switch with his or her hand, head or even an eye blink, making the instrument play!

Independence is one of the most important things we strive for in working with children with special needs.

Adaptive devices are the tools we use to create independence. You donation will help give my students independence during music class.
