This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Located in the western slope of Colorado, our school is a Pre-K through 5th-grade school in Rifle, CO. We have over 500 future leaders that we get the privilege of working with every day.
My classroom gives students the engagement and challenge they are looking for, as well as means to express themselves and relate to the universal language of music.
Highland students love music.
Access to approbate tools and instruments grants our students with that next challenge they desire. With our rigorous standards, students are asked to express, create, theorize, and evaluate music as individuals, small groups and ensembles. They deserve the necessary tools and instruments to help them succeed.
My Project
My students need these special percussion instruments so they can make creative choices when composing music. Our school is overdue for some replacements. Currently, many of our smaller percussion instruments are broken and/or missing pieces. We would love to have instruments that are functioning and are safe and appropriate for our students.
Kinder-2nd grade students love creating sound stories by composing moods and rhythmic ideas with our percussion instruments.
3rd-5th grade students use those instruments to add embellishments to popular songs and compose their own songs.
The music students at Highland would greatly appreciate your support in providing the tools and equipment to help fulfill their creative needs.
The new percussion instruments would be used heavily throughout the year for all K-5th grade students.
