Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I inner-city school, located in southern Connecticut and this is my seventh year teaching! Our school administration and staff are very supportive of our music program. Every student receives music instruction from PreK through 8th grade. We have over 100 students in our grade 6-8 band alone! We start our students off with a strong music education that they carry with them for the rest of their lives
Every year our program grows, but unfortunately, our budget does not.
As our program grows, we are able to tackle more challenging concepts and my students are eager to try new things to expand their education. Our budget covers essential supplies, but as a result, we are not able to grow our inventory as much as is needed. My goal is to provide the best music education possible for my students!
My Project
I work with all of the preschool and kindergarten students in my school. This is my third year working with this age group and every year, I am able to build up our materials bit by bit. These rhythm instruments will assist in teaching the students about timbre, rhythm, keeping the beat, and overall, get them pumped about music class! The scarves will be used in a lot of movement activities that help the students learn about space and moving to music.
These instruments will ensure that every young musician has the chance to play during music class, every time!
These 3-6 year old students love the chance to get their hands on an instrument. I plan a lot of activities where these instruments will enhance the students' learning experience. While we teach the students to share, it would be so nice to having enough supplies for everyone to participate at the same time.
