The days of math worksheets are LONG gone in my classroom! Math has never been more fun and engaging for my students. We need dice, dice, and more dice to teach concepts and skills in this new way!
My students have the privilege of attending a school that has a strong focus on math.
They are exposed to math in a way that I never thought possible for Kindergarten students. Their potential is incredible as they begin to think about and learn math concepts in completely innovative ways. The kids who are in my room come from a wide range of backgrounds and most come from poverty. What is truly amazing to me is that I am seeing these students excel in math regardless of their background or lack of prior experiences. The materials I am requesting will enhance that progress even more.
My Project
With a school so focused on math, we have chosen not to use any particular curriculum. Teachers have been trained in Math Recovery, which is a fabulous way to really know our kids' math skills and what to do with what they know. We spend our resources making games and creating meaningful activities to help our kids excel in math. The dice resources I am requesting will provide my students with so many opportunities with numbers. They will use the dice to learn how to count, add, and subtract. They will be used to give the students a way to define a number quantity. They will be used to play games and learn the names of numbers. The possibilities are endless.
