it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a school social worker working in Inner-city, there are a lack of resources and too many children who have experienced trauma. I find myself constantly replenishing sensory items and fidget toys to help support them when they’re feeling a negative emotion. I service the school of almost 500 students from kindergarten to eight grade. The large part of the students I work with have sensory needs due to ASD or ADHD. I also provide services to children who suffer loss, difficulties with self-esteem, suicidal ideation, impulse etc. Many of the staff and children know that I try and keep such items in hand. Students often request to keep these items but this is financially burdensome. These sensory tools really help support our students through difficult times.
