Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school, a Title 1 high school, believes in providing students STEM opportunities that go beyond the classroom. Creating a makerspace in our library will provide our students with the tools and resources to explore their creativity and inventiveness. For many of our students who would not consider a career in STEM, having a low-risk space to explore materials they would not ordinarily come in contact with is the first step.
The sewing machines and supplies will allow students a chance to make items and explore career options that they may have not thought of before, and then utilize the items they made to encourage the students to explore more avenues.
Students will develop problem-solving skills and a growth mindset as they create and build technical skills.
This is the precursor for students to consider courses in fashion, modeling, computer technology, engineering, graphic design, medicine, and the arts.
