My Students

My students are an amazing group of third graders. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It houses 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.

My school had a fire on January 26.

I lost my entire classroom to smoke damage. The materials requested in this project are to help my students and I rebuild our classroom and supplies.

My Project

My students need a sewing machine, fabric, thread, and beans to sew bean bags.

Students will use the requested supplies to make bean bags for the primary students.

They will measure the fabric, sew the fabric together, insert the dried beans and then hand sew the bean bag shut. They will be developing geometry and fine motor skills.

Once the bean bags are made, students will sell the bags as a fund raiser to raise money for our garden and playground equipment. Students will be learning how to run a bean bag store by selling the bags and making change.

With the bean bags, students will be taught both traditional games such as hopscotch and modern games such as cornhole. Students will be able to use the bags to work on basic skills such as throwing and catching. When the weather is lousy, the bags can be used for indoor p.e. and recess activities.

Through this project, students will learn new games, cooperation skills, team work, work ethic, responsibility, peer interactions, and how to manage money. Not only with my third graders benefit from this project, all students will as they will all be given a fun learning tool.
