My Students
The imagination Dr. Seuss transfers to words and pictures makes reading an enjoyable experience for students as they realize his language and characters are inventions of the mind. As I build their classroom library, Dr. Seuss is a MUST.
My students are in 1st grade and attend a K-5 elementary school in a small city in Georgia.
The community is high-poverty, high-minority.
They are eager to learn to read, and are currently working on building their stamina in this area. They are proud of their efforts in the first week of school.
My Project
Students shouldn't just be taught to read - they should be taught to LOVE reading. This can only be achieved through exposure to quality, entertaining, and inspiring books and authors. Dr. Seuss is certainly one of these authors. I am working on building the classroom library, and we desperately need some Dr. Seuss in our lives! We will be able to practice counting, rhyming, reading, discussing a person's character, creating our own Seuss-like books, and much more.
