This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"To teach is to learn!" This important quote is applied to me as a first grade teacher. I want to learn what my students and families need to become successful in literacy.

My students are in first grade.

They are young, innocent, and very eager to learn. They attend a low socioeconomic school but they are still children that have emotional, social, and educational needs. Most lack oral language skills and adequate background knowledge.

My Project

This will be my first year teaching first grade at a low socioeconomic status school. There are not very many resources for me, so I will need to spend much of my own money on classroom materials. However, the resources are necessary for students to enter a safe and inviting classroom. I will use the resources to enhance the knowledge of my students in math, by visual representations and assessments. Assessments are vital to understanding what students know and need to be taught. Furthermore, a very important part of my teaching responsibilities are making connections with families. This is important to the development and learning of my students.

Making a donation to the resources requested would be make a difference in my classroom because I would have a more effective way to get parents involved in their child's education.

Additionally, I would have a better understanding about how to meet the individual needs of students, which is so important because all students learn differently and at different paces. This would mean a great deal to me in the upcoming school year.
