My Students

My babies are some of the smartest, hardest working, mentally tough students in the city! In the heart of North Lawndale, lies our small but mighty school in it's 2nd year of turnaround. What that meant for the students was new teachers, new administrators, new everything. But it also meant passionate, dedicated, hard-working, loving adults around every corner of the building. These adults have allowed our babies to grow and recognize their potential.

While my babies might not have much in the way of physical "stuff", they have perseverance and heart.

That is why they deserve to have the simple things needed for any school/classroom in America. I never want my students to have to worry about pencils or band-aids when they are trying to play catch up in terms of a massive achievement gap. That is why I take that weight on myself. They deserve the best. They are worth it!

My Project

My students need and DESERVE to have all the classroom supplies an average 6th grade class would have in any classroom in the US. Due to difficult socio-economic circumstances, many students cannot bring or contribute supplies, even the basics. Pencils, pens, staples, folders are among the necessary items I request.

No student should have to worry if they will have the resources to have a fulfilling educational career in grade school!

The least we can do if provide these basic necessary school items so they have a little less to worry about!

Even with the advent of technology, students still need to learn the art of writing first drafts, organization and highlighting text! The items in this grant will allow my students to be able to experience all these skills. With these tools, my students have everything they need at a bin close to their work station to allow more time for pure learning! Pencils are necessary for the writing process as well as annotating text! Highlighters and post it notes are essential for the close reading process as well! Folders, paper, tabs, staplers and binder rings allow my students to stay organized which prepares them for real world application.
