Setting the Stage for STEM

Help me give my students light covers to soften the florescent lighting and books to introduce STEM topics in our classroom.

My Project

My students are gifted and advanced learners in 2nd through 5th grades who attend a STEM enrichment class daily. Some of them are twice exceptional, many of them have little exposure to STEM, coding or engineering outside of our classroom. Many students have attended this group for multiple years and we have built a family-like relationship; I am excited to create an environment that better matches these relationships.

This collection of materials will support my students by creating a learning environment that feels a little more like home as they engage in STEM activities, projects and problems.

The fluorescent light covers will create a more comfortable learning environment by diffusing glare, reducing the harsh lighting, and minimizing eye strain. The magnetic writing papers and shelves will provide spaces for class notes and current books and resources that are readily accessible and moveable. The Smarticles of Giftedness book will help start the year off strong as we discuss what it means to be gifted and advanced. The other science and STEM texts will be used to introduce a variety of STEM topics connected to our integrated computer science and gardening units. We will also make many messes in our STEM work, and the dish washing items will support easy cleaning and drying.
