Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title1 school. Although our campus is closed due to the Pandemic, learning will continue through digital platforms. My students are energetic, curious, and enthusiastic. The majority of them have never been to school, are learning English as a second language, and many of their families are struggling economically due to Covid.
My students are a community of learners where everyone is valued, where everyone has a voice, where everyone is a self-manager, and where everyone is respected and welcomed.
My young scholars need hands on, engaging activities to become invested and engaged in their learning to become our future leaders. I believe college begins in preschool and I want to give them the best foundation possible.
My Project
My young scholars are hands-on learners. These math manipulatives will help increase my prescholers' natural curiosity for numbers. They will use the materials requested to demonstrate necessary math skills in a fun, innovative way. For example, they will use the tens frames and counters to develop cardinality, one to one correspondence, and basic addition/subtraction to 10. They will use the blocks to count and make patterns. They will solidify basic addition and subtraction number sentences by first "building" the number sentence with magnetic numbers and then writing the sentence on their write/wipe boards. There is no limit to the mathematical skills that can be acquired when they are motivated to learn, and these resources will get them really excited about learning basic number concepts.
The math resources I've requested will not only add much needed hands-on materials for my students; it will also allow my students' natural curiosity for numbers and self confidence to soar.
These resources will ensure that my students develop math concepts and the ability to create meaning for themselves through hands-on activities. These resources will provide a HUGE boost to my students' math skills and most important to their financial literacy now and into their future. Please help me support our future financial leaders!
