Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager to learn daily despite the fact that most of them come to school with little or no school supplies. I focus on providing a fun and creative learning environment. My students are regular education and English as a Second Language Learners. Most of my students live in single parent homes.
I teach at a Title I school where 100 percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.
Many of our families in our school community were impacted by the experience of Hurricane Harvey. The devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey was horrible. Most can only imagine the impact this storm had on our district area. I know I cannot change the struggles they face at home, but I can make sure their lives at school are positive, exciting, and rewarding.
My Project
We need a Sony Handycam Camcorder to record our Kindergarten learning at our own pace. I want to use this camcorder to record my student doing Independent Reading and Partner Reading to practice fluency and sight words. During Math we can record themselves counting numbers, money, and real life job videos at our own pace using real world learning experiences. I believe my students will benefit from this technology by seeing themselves in hand-on videos that are Kindergarten and age appropriate. My students love watching videos but most are too short and go too fast. We can slow down our learning so that we can understand the first time. Many of my students are English as a Second Language (ESL) learners and many of the videos we watch go extremely fast and we are not able to get the words but only the music. I have many speech students and they need time to process what they are learning to communicate their ideas. My students can record their own Kindergarten Student Professional Development videos to share with other Kindergarten Classes using this new technology.
Recording our learning to benefit our Kindergarten Literacy.
We can record workstations, lessons, and videos at their pace so they can learn the information while working individually, in small groups and with a partner and assess their level of understanding. Having the camcorder will allow us the opportunity to record our how to manuals for real world experiences. The Sony Handycam camcorder is very small and my students will be able to use it with their little hands. My students can record themselves completing different workstation to teach their partners or small groups. Having a camcorder will bring endless possibilities for us to record our Kindergarten learning.
