My kids don't know beyond our small town, there is a big world out there filled with opportunity and promise. I teach at a school with one of the highest rates of free and reduced price lunches in the state. On a daily basis, I am trying to teach kids, while also addressing some of the most basic social, emotional, and nutritional needs that you would expect the home to be meeting. I love the kids I teach. I feel that I make a real difference in their lives.
My Project
The materials and supplies I am requesting for my students will benefit them in many ways. In our room, we do a lot of writing that's why we need the pencils and erasers. The kids love using descriptive language to paint a picture in the reader's mind. In math, we use what I call "fake white boards" which consist of sheet protectors, white paper and dry erase markers. They are a great inexpensive way to have a white board for all the kids. We need those supplies for math to show what they know. Doing the math on white boards with dry erase markers is very appealing for a 3rd grader. We also do a lot of art projects that go with our units of study. The paint, colored paper, and brushes will allow us to be more creative and dive deeper into our creative sides.
The donation of these items will assure these kids have the tools they need to be successful 3rd graders.
It may seem like trivial supplies, but it will allow my kids to be more successful and we have more opportunities to learn.
