With the start of a new school year, I am setting up my classroom to enable my new students to engage fully with the curriculum while keeping our materials organized. For example, my students will again use whiteboard markers regularly for problem-solving and active group work, both on their personal whiteboards and on vertical whiteboards around the classroom. The whiteboard marker holders will be the designated spot to put them away. Folders will help students keep track of their key papers. Number labels will organize our computers and calculators. Starbursts are a nice little acknowledgement of an insightful comment or sustained effort in class.
This project will help create a welcoming, dynamic, and inclusive math classroom for my incoming students.
A birthday chart acknowledges every one of us as important in the room, while a number line reminds us how to add integers correctly even in the middle of a complicated Precalculus problem. Let's set all of my students up for success!
