Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday is an opportunity to teach and learn alongside my wonderful class. Their positive attitudes and open minds for inquiry allow them to try new skills and topics. They love a learning challenge, and if they fall short, they know they can reach their goals through hard work, perseverance, support from one another, and the power of yet.
Most importantly, my students respect one another's backgrounds.
My class is made up of military families, and families from all around our country and world. I have students from Texas, Hawaii, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Mexico. They've realized that, even though they speak a variety of languages, they have recognized and celebrated their differences, and found common threads that unite them as people. In short, they are a microcosm of our country--learning and living while respecting one another's differences.
My Project
Third grade is when students learn deeper concepts about time: telling time to the half-hour and to the minute; elapsed time, the language of time, and adding and subtracting time. These concepts can be better learned and practiced using clocks with built-in gears that keep the minute and hour hands in tandem with one another. I had an opportunity to try out a student clock with gears at the store, and it simplified time concepts greatly!
In addition, I'm excited to add comfy floor seats for my literature groups, so they can discuss their stories in a comfortable setting.
My students love to improve their reading skills with one another. Giving them a comfortable space with these seats will help them to look forward to literature group time. The back supports will help learners stay focused, allowing them to complete their literature discussions during reading groups.
Your donations are greatly appreciated. I will put these clocks and seating gifts to use immediately to enhance my students' learning. I will most definitely share these gifts with my 3rd grade team as well. Thank you for your kindness in advance!
