Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I never saw myself as an actor. I really didn't. However, when you get the chance to stand in front of 30 bright-eyed students, you have to be. I sing, I dance and I have mastered the voices of many different cartoon animals. I understand the responsibility of a great first impression of the school. It warms my heart that such a simple gesture has become such an essential part of their school day.

I teach a bilingual classroom where all 30 of my students are English Language Learners.

My students love to read and are eager to solve problems every single day. The school I proudly work at serves a low-income population of primarily Hispanic students. Despite many hardships, my students always come in motivated and ready to learn!

My Project

Get this. I wanted to get my students more engaged in writing their own stories. I wanted them to be inspired! Then one of my wonderful students stayed after class to show me their toy.. as they often do...but this time it was no ordinary toy! She showed me a lego living room she made equipped with a model of her and one of her sisters. Then using her toys she told me a story about her sister and herself. I loved it!

Students would be more engaged to write stories if they were able to build a scene with legos.

I imagine my students building a variety of settings and letting their imagination run wild! LEGOs help students begin the creative process and will inspire them to write amazing stories!
