My Project
I am a special education teacher who provides instruction, support, and accommodations for children with disabilities to help them achieve success in their general education classrooms. My students have a wide range of disabilities, and with that comes a wide range of needs and strengths. The students I work with struggle with emotional regulation, executive functioning, self-management, and memory processing more than a typically developing student.
Due to their disabilities, my students require unique and diverse supports that are difficult to come by in most classrooms in order to achieve similarly to their typically developing peers.
These materials can be costly and are commonly paid for with special educators' own money, so I have been unable to provide my students with the most effective accommodations for their needs. This project might change that for my students.
I plan to use the flexible seating options to help my students who struggle with executive functioning and self-management attend to their tasks and increase their focus. I plan to use the social emotional learning tools to teach emotional regulation and calm down strategies to my students with explosive or unsafe behaviors that impact their learning and the learning of others. Finally, I would like to try new math tools to help build math fact fluency with my students who struggle with their working memory. The items in this project can help my students and I achieve these goals as a team.
