This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third grade teacher at P.S.169. Located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, P.S.169 is a Title 1 School where all of the children receive free lunch and many of the children are English Language Learners.
The learning we do in my class is split between two places - the student's desks and the rug. Sitting with the class on the rug helps to build a sense of community, and brings the children closer to the white board. However it does not provide a flat workspace for the children. This learning experience can be improved with the help of Student Reading Trays. These trays are sturdy, offer a flat surface to write on, have space for pencils and notebooks and are lightweight plastic. I feel these trays would greatly improve my student's comfort level when working on the rug. Thank you for your consideration.
