Serving Science With Newton’s Laws! Girls Serve Science Strong 2

Help me give my students science and volleyball accessories for Newton's Laws of Motion demonstrations and gym classes- 2 for 1.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Sims's classroom raised $1,311

My Project

This grant will support a unique in class science combo mixed with after-school program designed specifically for girls, combining the excitement of volleyball with hands-on STEM learning.

Using volleyballs as a teaching tool, students will apply Newton’s Laws of Motion and other core science concepts to better understand force, motion, energy, and teamwork.

The program will emphasize collaboration as girls work together in groups and build concepts and community with others.

Each middle school student in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will receive a snack to help them apply Newton’s Laws of Motion in a fun and hands-on way. Parents will be invited to join the learning experience and see how Newton’s Laws are explored through real-world examples. After completing their work and presenting their findings, students will be able to keep their snack as a reward. This unique opportunity will especially benefit 8th graders as they prepare for the state science test by strengthening their ability to connect abstract concepts to practical situations and improving their confidence in explaining scientific ideas. For the younger grades, this experience will lay a strong foundation for future science learning while allowing parents to witness and support their child’s growth, making science both interactive and community-centered.

By elevating girls as presenters and role models, this grant will help create a ripple effect of empowerment and engagement throughout the school community.

This grant will make a huge impact by increasing girls’ participation in STEM by connecting it to an activity they already love and understand; building leadership and collaboration skills as girls work in teams and present to their peers and breaking down stereotypes and encouraging more girls to see themselves as future scientists, engineers, and innovators.

My students are phenomenal and so creative! They love all things science!
