This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a soccer coach and lifelong athlete, women's sports mean the world to me -- so when students, knowing my enthusiasm in this area, asked if I would help them start a girls' tennis program at our school, the answer was of course an emphatic "yes!"
However, because we haven't had a tennis program in years, our equipment inventory is not robust enough to support this; we do not have enough rackets or balls for the amount of girls who have opted to join.
Additional equipment would be immensely helpful to make practice more efficient and increase team confidence. There is so much vulnerability and courage required to try a new sport for the first time -- combined with the added pressure of building a team from the ground up -- that merits investing in this group of 16 amazing girls who are simultaneously learning and leading.
