This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our special education classroom, every student brings their own unique strengths, challenges, and ways of interacting with the world. Many of our students struggle with sensory processing and emotional regulation which make it difficult for them to stay focused, feel safe, and succeed academically and socially.
That’s why we’re creating a dedicated sensory and calm-down area—a safe, welcoming space where students can take a break when they are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or overstimulated.
This area will be equipped with tools like sensory fidgets, soft seating, wobble cushions and stools, noise canceling headphones, weighted items, calming visuals, and more to help students self-regulate and return to learning feeling more grounded and in control.
Right now we lack the resources to provide this essential support. Your donation will help us build a space where students can learn to manage their emotions in healthy ways and feel empowered in their own learning journey.
