This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students thrive in calm environments. Classrooms can be an overwhelming place for students with disabilities and multi-language learners. These various sensory tools will help to calm the mind. I was tasked with creating a sensory-safe space for our special education population. Teaching students to be aware of their learning styles and senses can help calm their frustrations when they feel they are no longer in control of a situation. Sensory items are designed to stimulate a student's five senses. Sometimes, just a slight addition of something bright, contrasting colors, sounds, or different textures can aid in the learning environment, making it feel more safe and natural. My students need a sand painting lightbox, hanging chair stand, sensory floor tiles, swing chair, sensory mat and tubes, and more.
