This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach special ed math to high schoolers. We use calculators every day. With the calculators they currently have, they have to press the number first then the negative button to make the number negative. Then they can solve it. This process tends to be confusing to the students and causes a lot of strife.

I teach students with special needs, and they tend to make mistakes!

In the calculators that they currently have, they have to erase the whole problem when they make a mistake. Meanwhile, with these new calculators, they would be able to delete a number, instead of the whole problem! So they would save time since they wouldn't need to redo the whole problem!

Also, with these new calculators, solving negative numbers would be a breeze! For instance, let's say we have -12 - 4. In the calculators they currently have, they have to do ( 12 then press the negative button, then minus then 4). They tend to get super confused about this because they just pressed the negative, so why do they have to do it again? Since they are confused, it makes math really difficult for them. However, in these calculators, they can just put -12 - 4 and get the answer!

They can also use these calculators on the ACT! If they know how to operate them then it will be so helpful for them! They get tripped up when it comes time for the ACT and get frustrated that they're not getting the right answers. I am trying to avoid this and I really need your help to do so!

The standing desks, balance boards, kick bands, and fidget toys will really help my students. My students need to move and these will help them do so!
