Sensory Toys- A Game Changer for Children with Special Needs

Help me give my students an opportunity to have a safe and enjoyable way to regulate their emotions and behaviors, improve focus and attention, and develop fine motor skills while using the sand table, trampoline and other items.

My Project

I am starting a new journey in the world of education. After 10 years in the general education classroom I am moving to a self-contained 4 year old classroom. I have realized my heart is truly with students that have exceptionalities. My students have a vast array of special needs from Cerebral Palsy to Autism. While the main furniture in the classroom is provided by the school I would love to provide our students with sensory items to meet their needs. Most of the students are non-verbal. Some of them are unable to care for themselves but they still have needs to be meet. Every child loves to play and deserves a chance to learn. My largest request is the sensory table so that I can change out the items to match the season or current teaching unit. I am also asking for a trampoline to help children get out their energy while strengthening their muscles. Providing opportunities for students to release energy and tension while calming themselves will be beneficial to everyone. I have also included toys that will allow students to play while learning their numbers, colors and working on fine motor skills. Thank you in helping me support the needs of these beautiful children!
